Lord Ramachandra, The Valiant King is an avatar of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He appeared in Treta Yuga more than two million years ago. He demonstated the ideal character and dutifulness of an ideal King.
Under the tutelage of His guru Vishvamitra, Rama studied martial arts
and defeated many demons. In a contest of heroes to win the hand of the
beautiful Princess Sita, Rama was victorious. He lifted, strung and
broke the mighty bow of Lord Shiva, which other contestants could not
even move. Princess Sita gladly accepted Rama as her husband
Under the order of His father, Lord Ramachandra lived in the forest for fourteen years, along with His wife, Sita Devi, and His younger brother, Lakshmana. After the powerful demon Ravana kidnapped His wife, Lord Ramachandra rescued her, with the help of His faithful servant Hanuman, and killed Ravana along with Ravana's armies. The history of Lord Ramachandra's pastimes is recounted by the sage Valmiki in his Ramayana
